Since my very first day on the internet I never seen single site really managing their ads.
The good old days where you could install random trackers on your PC so it could show you ads everywhere on your screen for like 3 euros per month. Good times.

BRUH, be glad it's this for now. I'd rather have this than how Mangareader turned out in the end. It was just porn, scams, and viruses. If you want this to stop, give Mangadex more money. they're not exactly maintaining this site for free you know!
That’s why md@h exists

Hi everyone
After considerable internal backlash from multiple staff members (myself included), we've decided to remove the current ad campaign from the website.
Thank you to everyone who expressed their disagreement and concerns about this AI-slop ad, as this has helped us provide concrete evidence to support our arguments.

The ad should be gone in a bit (1h max), leaving the placeholder with the 2 little dorks visible again. :meguu:
but then how are you going to pay the bills?

weren't they acquired by namicomi or smth?
there was all this buzz during dmca wave that mangadex is fully under namicomi now
and namicomi themselves received multimillion yeehawrinos of investment

...no. See points 13 and 14 of this FAQ MangaDex posted following the DMCA.

Between the moralities of AI "art" and scanlations of manga/manhwa online:

theres a pretty big difference between using various people's art and work to generate something effortlessly and claim it as your own and translating a work that many times you would not be able to access (like works that dont have any official translations) while making no money from it and still crediting the original artists. Theres a whole other thread here talking about the ethics of scanlating, but I think we all know that the ethics of genAI are pretty set in stone.

And you cant just throw away the fact that something is being advertised simply because you think that no one is going to click it anyway, any kind of positive platforming for this is not good, especially when the content being shoved in our faces is AI tiddies
You are forgetting that AI when they translate they were trained on already humanly translated text.
