Which is weird because I’ve read a bunch of Mangas with the romance tag and there was almost nothing there, they usually add it at the first sign of blushing.

This has had more showing of affection than some 400 issue long manga’s, a really weird change unless they know something we don’t.

idk what the hell you have been reading so far, but they clearly addressed this through several chapters that he never had a phone and didn't feel like he needed one, and he only just got his phone just recently. Interesting to see Hayato get his turn at becoming uncomfortable at the idea of Haruki being with another guy and taking some awkward action, Haruki took some awkward action herself last time when he and Minamo were busy doing their gardening stuff.

Kazuki appears to be going into full love rival mode, and likely wants to see and know better who he's up against. It would be nice for that to be subverted though, and have him actually only want to be friends with him, and even better if he was in love with someone else. But I think that's unlikely. I'd be surprised if that was the case.

Though it puzzles me how we're getting love rivals on both sides to push a romantic subplot when the romance tag is missing...?

Sometimes we forget things like that. Like, I wanted to know if this metal is ferrous or something else. Until my mentor told me; just use a magnet. OFC! I've always done it like that, but I just forgot.
Now, our MC is just oblivious and didn't have a phone ever. Like some old friends of mine, as in, 20 years older, they didn't know how to copy paste using their phone or smth similar. My buddy who is an IT boi, chuckled a little. But now he knows at least.
You know, it's like the grandpa who comes to you and shows, oh look, if you hold backspace on your phone, you can move the cursor to write in between words.

Beg to disagree. It has nothing to do with padding. It's either the author wants to play with the characters relationship dynamics or they want a new "canvas"(character) to "paint"(write) a interesting "painting"(backstory, emotional issue, and emotional resolution).
