After the first generation of friends, families and acquaintances Aesir made, I hold my breath every time Aesir makes new connections with short-lived and non-immortal characters. I think slowly but surely Aesir will feel the toll of all these, and one day after exploring the whole world and all realms, he will no longer feel at home any more like what he felt in the first human city he visited after all people he knew already passed away.
I guess by that time, he himself will also be at the end of his life span - a silver lining to his extremely long high-elf life. At least by the time he will experience extreme loneliness and losing his sense of belonging, he can transcend to becoming a being/spirit of nature and can view existence in a different way.

One thing that strikes me right now is that, so far, every time he went back he found one way or another by which one of his old friends "surpassed" their lives. Whether by making art that passes down, by marrying and leaving offspring with stories of an old friend or constructs that keep standing across time. I wonder (and am I frightened by that thought) if there will ever be a time where his expectations are just shattered. Like someone dying too young to leave offspring, or failing/falling hard and being forgotten, unable to leave behind anything more meaningful or being nearly completely erased aside from the memory of Aesir. I hope this next visit isn't such case.

Don't think you would get update on that series on Mangadex.
That series had been licensed by KManga, and since they usually release chapter fast and catch-up to do simulpub, no Fan-translation group are interested in wasting time on a series which gets simulpub (unless it's a mainstream series like Black Clover, for example).
This is also why the Fan-translation of "7th Prince" also stopped as KManga is officially simulpub that series same day as Japan.
I noticed after I looked up the comic. Happy it is getting an official publisher, but it does frustrate my personal enjoyment.

That would kinda defeat the point of why he left the forest in the first place. He didn't set out to find a spouse and settle down. He left to see what the world has to offer and go on a journey. It was inevitable that he was gonna meet ppl and make friends. Whenever he makes a new friend, is he gonna settle down and live there till they grow old and die? What if he makes new friends there in that time? What about their kids? He would effectively never leave the moment he makes a friend. Or live a life where he keeps everyone at a distance.
The MC has chosen to live his life as he wants, exploring new places and trying new things. All in the persuit of his own whims. And although he can't always be around for the ppl he meets he can leave behind a good relationship that lasts generations. With his life span I think he has chosen to rember the individual by continuing the relationship with the bloodline.
I could spend time explaining what I meant with my post, but that's something you should have noticed by actually reading it. Better luck next time.

I agree.

They started out as different takes on a similar theme, but Frieren has developed into a more typical adventure story while this one continues to focus on the passage of time and the importance of making memories that will live on.
Yes. I loved Frieren during the first chapters. But since the mage exam arc where they introduce lots of new characters, the story starts dragging it, it gets boring for me. I think the last time I got excited reading frieren was the battle with Aura. Now I don't open frieren at all.

I just dropped Frieren myself. They've been on their current mission for what feels like ages, and the series just went on hiatus again. Like you I'm just no longer excited to see a new update, so it's time to put it down (at least for a while).

And it's not that I don't enjoy the characters added during the mage exam arc, but the expanded cast seems to have pulled the story further and further away from its initial premise. Which is fine if what you want is "Frieren's fantasy adventures" (and hey if that's what someone likes more power to them) but it's not what the series I fell in love with.

Indeed, it's almost like the new characters introduced are purposed to drag the story as long as they could. I don't mind but damn it's been ages.

I kinda wanna see how Aesir would react if a mortal he thought would have passed away for sure from old age was actually still kicking around somehow.
He is also a mortal, just ridiculously longer life span than everyone else (thousand versus hundred). The elf girl is still alive, and the dwarf king should also be alive. The humans are not, but don't let the great grandma thing make you feel time pass too fast. It is roughly medieval time, so human breed faster than now. If you don't die from external causes, you can see several generations in your life time.

Being killed aside, high elves technically don't die because of natural mean.
As they grow older, their souls become more restless and want to escape from the shackles of physical body. The empty husks they leave behind are STILL undying, full of energy and make a very good fertilizer to nourish the forest.

This is about half way through volume 4, chapter 3. You can subscribe to J-Novel ($4.5/month) and binge reading the entire series there (read only, not include ebook).
Or if it's still not viable option, you can find a copy on nyaa.
Google books sells the copy, so I thought of getting it there, but from your info it's way cheaper to subscribe to J-Novel, so yeah thanks for the info 👍 have a good day!

I mean we get what you said, we are just saying that what matters more to MC is his journey. He cares about exploring the world rather than meeting new people. Also, his journey doesn't really have an end. So it's hard to "hurry up" a journey that has no end.

Is it selfish? Yes, but that's how he chose to live his life. We can critique his choices until the cows come home, but at the end of the day, that's his choice.

That doesn't mean he can't feel sad about his friends dying, and he clearly cares about them since he visits them.

On one hand, it does suck that he's missing out on seeing the people he saw in the first cycle at least once before they die. On the other hand, if he really were to go around visiting everyone he's ever met, he'd be going in circles. Kaeha and the dojo were a special case.

I don't think his late friends would want him to end up in a cycle like that. The real question though, is how good his memory is.

As the saying goes, every person dies two deaths: once when they physically die, and again when all memory of them is gone.
I feel like he's been a lot more reluctant to get close to people since Kaeha died. All the relationships he's had since have been fairly superficial, without any promise of coming back really.

Is there some nuance missing from the translation?
Because unless we talking the husk feed mana to the forest. Being fertilizer usually involved decaying and breaking down. Also, his soul is technically not like other high elves, so we will see what happen if the author ever get there.
