I too am surprised that the girl with crippling depression struggled with fully placing the blame on anyone other than herself. I can't believe that the most she could manage was a half hearted "I'll resent you for the rest of my life".

Anyways let's be real. Myself and anyone else going in blind didn't expect anything more than Al being confined to a nearby villa with all the usual creature comforts royalty gets. Being exiled to the outskirts with nothing but the clothes on your back so that you may be experimented upon for the rest of your life is a drastically better punishment than what we thought he was getting.

Maybe those disappointed should write together to the mangaka and request a panel of Al being tortured with every new chapter, just so you can complain about how "having his organs ripped out to test regeneration time" or whatever isn't good enough of a punishment.
I really don’t think that Lainie’s actually resenting Algard. If anything her expression looks like she’s ready to forgive him, and Algard seems to think that too (as shown in the next page). Honestly it kinda feels like one of those mutual breakup stories.

Gotta say, I find Lainie and Euphyllia apologizing to Algard more than a little gross. It makes me think of someone saying "I'm sorry I made you hurt me" to their abuser.

Some of the blame might fall on the king and queen (or other parental figures) for not raising him properly, but ultimately he's responsible for his own actions and decisions.

I enjoyed this series for the most part, but this resolution stinks.

People are confused about him saying she had no charm. To be honest she seems like she was always gay as hell, so to him it probably seemed that her only standing point was she was someone with a stick up their ass.

People are confused about that whole segment, which is why they're finding that last scene awkward or this whole chapter being weirdly favorable for Al.

Both Laine and Euphie were generic damsels and puppets when they were Al's partner. The whole final scene, including what the TL page said was "awkward resentment", is meant for the two of them to show Al (and us) that they've become better and more independent people. And that if they ever have to deal with someone like Al again, they're not going to roll over and take it. No, Laine probably doesn't actually resent Al now, though she might still not forgive him to some extent. Does it need to be spelled out and spoonfed for people who can't read between the lines of something so simple?

As for Al's punishment being "lenient", this is actually pretty standard in medieval European monarchies. Try looking up various lists of executed royals. You will find very, very few, compared to how many monarchies that have existed in recorded history, with the majority of them being of non-european monarchies or the result of usurpation or overthrow of the reigning dynasty, which invalidates the royal status of the executed. With most European monarchies being heavily entwined at least in name with religion, and the often complex family connections with the greater nobility, it was very unseemly and politically fraught to actually execute members of royal families. There are even royals who have instigated wars AND directly tried to kill their siblings/parents/children/etc....and they've simply been exiled after the fact. Sometimes multiple times.

It's a different matter for assassinations, which was far more common and avoided all of the above problems. So if they really want AL to pay with his life, he'll meet an "accident" during one of the experiments or something. Obviously, everyone's said their piece in his favor so that's not going to happen. And if one wishes to be totally cold and logical about it, they can always quietly kill him later if he continues to be a problem.

I can't help but feel this crowd has read far too many manga in this genre which tends to be even more simplistic in character portrayal or pushes many fictional tropes about medieval Europe.

Wow, long break. I though this was from a vn/ln. Not sure why they need such a long break.

Yo, I hope what we saw in the anime won't be thing. Cause Anis being discussed like some breeding cow, while her parents just cried for being useless (and they fluffing are) ain't something I wanna see twice...
It'll be there for sure. It's part of the LNs and what helps showcase Euphie's newfound independence but also her closer connection to Anis. Not something they can skip really.

Yes.

All of this, exactly.

Plus, there's the one little detail others can't seem to wrap their heads around:

Now that he's a vampire, it's A LITTLE HARD TO KILL HIM AND MAKE SURE HE STAYS DEAD. Kinda invalidates the whole 'execution' thing, ya know?

And even with the above mentioned politics and "execution's a no-go but assassination is okay"? Well, before you start hoping for assassination, just remember what it took to almost kill Lanie. I mean, sure, he nearly succeeded killing Lanie... But all she needed was just an itty-bitty-bit of blood, and she was good to go. (Yes, she was still hurting badly enough that she was still pretty much out of commission, but it was then immediately shown that Algard could handle it.)

An "assassination" attempt on Algard from now on will wind up having all the grace of a misdirected JDAM striking a shelter full of women and children. (What I mean is that an assassination attempt on Algard will very likely have some serious collateral damage, and Algard would still probably survive regardless.)

As it is, his life from here on out is gonna be sucktastic enough as is being experimented upon for god knows how many decades or even centuries.

Anis deserves the crown, but… there’s an obvious problem with putting a lesbian whose only sibling has been disinherited on the throne, isn’t there?
Well, if Anis becomes Queen, either she will be expected to take a male consort (or just marry a dude) to produce an heir, OR magic-babies, which let's be honest, is far more likely in a yuri series.

so... nearly killing two people and all he got was a slap on the wrist?

If Anis wasn't the MC with plot armor, this could have turned bad for the whole world, considering that the brother was fucking OP and could have become a tyrant with no one stopping him.
having your inheritance/power as a crown prince revoked, being disowned by his family and exiled is a pretty fitting and justified punishment. in the time period this is set irl very few were held accountable for their atrocities and his actions are very tame in comparison. considering he repents and has zero intention of committing a further crime, there is no reason to further punish him other than for punishment's sake. nobody wants him beheaded

The comment section here for this entire arc has proven that yes it does need to be spelled out in the simplest terms and then bashed on their heads repeatedly. Despite all the back and forth dialogue, monologuing, and flashbacks people STILL don't understand Algaard's character and why he chose to do the things he did. Good luck getting them to understand characters that had far less exposition.
