Back on batoto leading up to the most recent US presidential election, there were people hyping up Trump's campaign slogan up until the point he got elected. It started off as meme jokes that eventually progressed to rabid supporters thinking they're in good company.
Almost immediately after, nearly all of that stuff stopped. Probably majority due to it being a past event at that point mind you, but it was at least a notable difference.
I don't doubt there's some subtle behavior altercations in at least some translated works/ the manga community. The types of people that tend to read manga, especially manga of this type, tend to eat it up without much criticizing thought. Because the idea is fitting in; a sense of community. I guess. Whether it's real people or "astroturf", I'm not sure. Crazy people exist everywhere though, and may have a job to capitalize on their crazy.
Then again, this is all my subjective viewpoint. How objectively true or not is near impossible to find out. Unless I guess you are doing the subtle brainwashing and can see your actions making a difference.
...I just thought of it, next US presidential election is in a year. So it might not be too farfetched an idea. But I doubt that's this translator's intention at the very least (but who knows in the future).
In any case though, just remember that the more you dislike something, the more likely you are to be extremely aware of it. And at the time, I did dislike what I saw very much. So also take that how you will.
