Telling this Asahi girl to think is like telling a rock to walk. It just isn't happening.

@Leo80221 I don't think the country has much in the way of offensive magic anyway. The history lesson mentioned that they are major weapons R&D nuts, so maybe enchantments but I don't think that's something that's been discussed in comic, rather than developing magic. kinda hard to develop magic, since it's power resolves largely from random luck in wavelengths rather than magic circles or incantations. Ruri would have to see the devastation and dissenters herself, without being able to interact with them because charm and propaganda, to have any hope of understanding.

that is the grossest looking charm magic I have ever seen. Usually, it looks all sparkly and... well, charming. this looks downright sinister or oily, to the point I had sudden doubts as to Ruri's physical humanity.

but then again, Ruri not really trying to make her understand
I think she has tried to make her understand for most of her life. This was probably a last effort to try, but since she has never understod why would she now?

Well, you can see why Asahi see Ruri as her best friend.
It's because Ruri is the only normal human around her.
Everyone else is brainwashed by the charm magic, and so Asahi never got any difficulty in her life.

Ofc telling her heavy stuff like betrayal/death and others things to someone like that is useless.
She will not understand anything until something very bad happen to her...and if she's not lucky, it would be too late.

In case you're wondering.
In the LN which the manga is adapted from, yes, Asahi still waged war against dragons.

It worked for the purpose of making Ruri's anger be off the charts compared to the WN version.

@icarushector : If it's the same as the WN, o boi.
They make these magic stones that basically absorb nearby spirits forcefully then explode (yes, killing the spirit too)
The force was strong enough to actually injure the dragons, which is why the humans are so gung ho thinking they can win this time.

Needless to say, the spirits are NOT amused by them using this.

Wow, she is denser than a black hole. But i guess it makes perfect sense when you consider how warped your perception of the world would be if everyone always put you first. It seems weirder to me that Asahi never realised something was off when comparing her life to those in movies.

@WhimsiCat :
and if I recall right it was considered a forbidden technique for good reasons and would have done allot more damage, potentially even enough to win, if not for there being a greater spirit present thanks to Ruri.

Ruri never should have asked the spirits to stop blocking that nations magic, at least not until they actually learned the lesson.

The problem was that even with the spirit refusing them, the king/priest just blame it on their oppositions for 'defying the prophecy' and use it as a chance to go full tyranny.

Not to mention some of the magic usage is likely for the people (healing/help the crop grow) so long-term denial of magic would just cause a lot of unnecessary suffering.

In this case it's better to do surgical strike i.e. get rid of the king and priest

@WhimsiCat I am like, 98% certain that that was the sort of thing that created the ghost planet thing from final fantasy: spirits within...

@WhimsiCat :
They blamed the lack of magic on their opponents anyhow, but one would hope that eventually someone would figure out that was BS is it never came back.

Didn't Ruri go through several villages on her way back to the capital to investigate and they were all basically starving and just shy of dying. I think magic was not being used beyond the elite.

I hate to bring up politics but this really does remind me of real life. I can talk and talk and try to explain my opinion to someone and why I believe in a certain topic and the other person just stares at me until I'm done speaking and gives a reply like they didn't hear a word I said. I'm not even in the two major parties in my country because people who are have their head fixed in this binary "I'm right, their wrong" attitude, at least when I tell them I'm an independent they PRETEND to listen. Most issues are complex and there are no quick fixes, it drives me nuts talking to people who don't even attempt to think of the other sides view.

Not enough fairies. I like how sinister the charm magic looked. Getting mind fucked shouldn't be all sparkles and rainbows.
