Not even sure where to begin here, but hey, since you at least popped up in the forum and somewhat decided to listen, here are my 2c:
When it comes to competing releases, it's common sense to at least match the quality of the other uploader, or at least do speedscans, but both are generally frowned upon unless both scanlators started scanlating the series at roughly the same time. The reason is VERY simple, and is not as related to anger as another poster said before, but rather to basic human psychology.
If someone snipes a title group A is going, several scenarios can play out:
- Group A will become complacent thinking there's no rush to release this series, as someone else is doing it (this is the most unlikely scenario)
- Group A will get annoyed at group B having sniped the series, and drop it, allocating resources elsewhere (a likely scenario)
- Group A will become actually angry, and will not only stop posting the series, but also wipe the entire series from the site (this has happened before)
- Group A will get actually angry and move to annoy group B (you) in any way possible, starting a flame war or similar (again, this happens)
- Group A's motivation wanes, and they stop the title, and likely slow down other series as well (this, again, is very likely)
- Group A's motivation hits rock bottom and they stop translating altogether (once more, actual previous cases)
- Group A becomes a troll group and keeps uploading but with troll translations (this is not common, but has happened, usually because group B steals their translations, not the case this time, but worth mentioning)
As you can see, there are many possible scenarios, and all of them are bad for Group A, and for all the readers. Now, add to this that your snipe is low quality in:
- Raw quality
- Edits
- Cleaning
- Type setting
- Translation
- Grammar
- Spelling
- Font of choice
Well, you can see why people would get angry... besides the fact that you're new, so there is NO GUARANTEE that you will keep scanlating the series, potentially resulting in a stalled title, and even if you did keep going, it would replace a title that has more than decent releases to objectively bad ones.
I have mentioned this to many other aspiring scanlators: look for DEAD TITLES, they exist, and there are plenty of them! If you enjoy isekai, there's a good chunk that have not been updated in years, same goes for the classical fantasy genre. If you start your releases, even at this quality level, for shows that are so dead, they will be welcome, because there is literally nothing else! You get your practice, readers get to continue a series they thought was dead and forgotten, and you anger no one. It's a win-win for everyone.
PS: You said you checked the text with grammerly... cool one, it's grammArly, and the word is spelled grammAr, but that's besides the point, the translation has plenty of spelling mistakes; better switch apps... even microsoft word and google docs have a better spelling checker.
