counter kabedon was really funny

edit: and in addition to the conversation happening, for groups who haven't announced that they are dropping the series. the allocable time to pick up a dropped series is usually +3 months-a year, not to say that abandoned projects are forgone beyond that period but that the allocable ranges within the community.
thank you for the effort, but as others have been saying. additional research into available resources would be much appreciated if you plan to continue going forward. the translation is a community for fans by fans, so its only fair to learn some community etiquette.
edit2: additionally if there has been announcements of delays from translators, it's fair game to acknowledge them.
as for multiple groups translating, outside of other languages. when same language groups are translating the same series, it usually falls under some scenarios of 1) it's competitive sniping, it detracts from quality and sincere work - translations purpose is to share and make it accessible, lower quality work can detract from the original story detering new readers and upseting old fans; 2) it's a collaborative piece where two groups may publish simultaneously as Mangadex can't feature credits to multiple groups. they may post simultaneously so both groups can gain recognition equally, and to feature their other works or be directly linked to their larger profolio

doing snipes could lead to the original TL-or dropping the title which is generally upsetting for everyone involved.
Oh god this.

Can you imagine this scenario, mr sniper:
A series that has good translation group with actually good translation quality, typesetting, raw but then someone like you with barely passable english, lower quality everything else, came and snipe the series. And then the previous group got pissed and then they decided to drop it. And now we're stuck with you, with whatever you call this "translation". Now you should know why everyone involved is upset?

Because its true, some of translator group are so easily angered and ready to drop everything when someone snipe them

"Sniping" on MD is about doing a manga that another person is also doing. It's customary not to touch unless the existing uploader has not touched in 3 months (usually more if the manga is monthly sometimes ) or only uploads when somebody else crosses uploads after that threshold as to keep the series hostage. We're just used to this being done intentionally, so a bit of an anger is just how things are.
It's just weird to have 2+ competing groups spreading their TL resources like that. That and the common courtesy, really. While obviously it's not forbidden, doing snipes could lead to the original TL-or dropping the title which is generally upsetting for everyone involved.

Btw i'd suggest looking into better typesetting. I think there are also some good resources in the discord/forums for starting TLs. And maybe some better raw source could work.
Well thats interesting, so basically if persona x guy doesnt upload for another month, i can finnish uploading my stuff?, Idk whats people talking about the grammer cuz i used grammerly to check it but yeah the font is pixalated cuz the raws I used are just screenshots from the e book. But yeah ima look into making it look nicer. Thanks for the comment, cuz lowkey all the others got me lost af, I'll stop uploading chapters for now

If you can't tell what's wrong with the translation and need to rely on grammarly, which is ass, this should be your tell that you're out of your depth.

God what a disappointment this was.

As someone who's made pretty much the exact same mistake when trying to get into scanlating, don't take the angry responses too harshly. the feeling is basically "we have a good thing going and you're rocking the boat"

if you wanna look for practice, you can find series that have been out for a while with 0 english chapters or something that only has around 1~3 translated with a bunch of raws available (some people do this to raise awareness for a series they themselves won't keep translating)

for typsetting, id say the Wild Words font is pretty standard. and its usually better if you can find downloads for the raws rather than trying to screenshot them just for qualities sake.

Honestly not sure how accurate grammerly is cause i've never used it myself. if you want feedback for chapters without uploading to whole comment sections like this, you could always ask a friend to read through it. or if for some reason you can't, there's forums like reddit subs dedicated to getting tips like https://www.reddit.com/r/Scanlation/

assuming you were interested in getting into scanlating as a whole and not just for this series, don't give up!

what's with all the people who know absolutely nothing about this suddenly deciding "Yeah, I'ma do that too. and do it in all the wrong ways and wonder why people aren't happy"...

3 strike system is a myth, blocking both the user and their solo group to make sure I don't accidentaly click their stuff in the future.

Honestly not sure how accurate grammerly is cause i've never used it myself.
Grammarly was hot garbage years ago and it hasn't gotten any better. for a tool that can not only do a proper job, but also offer noticable levels of support I would recommend ProWritingAid instead. Imagine a spellchecker that you deliberately type a word wrong and it still doesn't notice, that's Grammarly. at least microslop word could recognise when you likely meant a word that sounds the same but has a different spelling...

Grammarly is like DuoLingo, marketed to hell and back, but no matter how many years you use it, you wont be able to pass a basic competency test.

This is a monthly and Persx has a few different series on the go do I'd give it 4-5 months if you're adamant on doing this one. A better option would be to pick a series that's either been dropped by its previous translators or pick one with no chapters. Those two will get you met with cheers even is the quality isn't the best.

Not even sure where to begin here, but hey, since you at least popped up in the forum and somewhat decided to listen, here are my 2c:
When it comes to competing releases, it's common sense to at least match the quality of the other uploader, or at least do speedscans, but both are generally frowned upon unless both scanlators started scanlating the series at roughly the same time. The reason is VERY simple, and is not as related to anger as another poster said before, but rather to basic human psychology.
If someone snipes a title group A is going, several scenarios can play out:
  • Group A will become complacent thinking there's no rush to release this series, as someone else is doing it (this is the most unlikely scenario)
  • Group A will get annoyed at group B having sniped the series, and drop it, allocating resources elsewhere (a likely scenario)
  • Group A will become actually angry, and will not only stop posting the series, but also wipe the entire series from the site (this has happened before)
  • Group A will get actually angry and move to annoy group B (you) in any way possible, starting a flame war or similar (again, this happens)
  • Group A's motivation wanes, and they stop the title, and likely slow down other series as well (this, again, is very likely)
  • Group A's motivation hits rock bottom and they stop translating altogether (once more, actual previous cases)
  • Group A becomes a troll group and keeps uploading but with troll translations (this is not common, but has happened, usually because group B steals their translations, not the case this time, but worth mentioning)

As you can see, there are many possible scenarios, and all of them are bad for Group A, and for all the readers. Now, add to this that your snipe is low quality in:

  • Raw quality
  • Edits
  • Cleaning
  • Type setting
  • Translation
  • Grammar
  • Spelling
  • Font of choice

Well, you can see why people would get angry... besides the fact that you're new, so there is NO GUARANTEE that you will keep scanlating the series, potentially resulting in a stalled title, and even if you did keep going, it would replace a title that has more than decent releases to objectively bad ones.

I have mentioned this to many other aspiring scanlators: look for DEAD TITLES, they exist, and there are plenty of them! If you enjoy isekai, there's a good chunk that have not been updated in years, same goes for the classical fantasy genre. If you start your releases, even at this quality level, for shows that are so dead, they will be welcome, because there is literally nothing else! You get your practice, readers get to continue a series they thought was dead and forgotten, and you anger no one. It's a win-win for everyone.
PS: You said you checked the text with grammerly... cool one, it's grammArly, and the word is spelled grammAr, but that's besides the point, the translation has plenty of spelling mistakes; better switch apps... even microsoft word and google docs have a better spelling checker.

Coming here expected to see discussion around the chapter but ended up having to see all these instead.

Ngl it's such a hypocrisy how a pirated community decided to be a content police trying to shut people off from sharing stuff they work on and share with you.

I get it. The quality isn't as good compared to the usual guy, but do you really have to be this harsh? Wow.

If the usual guy has so much ego as to drop the works that people have been appreciating over some ice cracks then, isn't the person the problem instead of the cracks though?

I'm speaking as someone who's disappointed by the quality myself. I like the previous guy's works more too, but can't we all be a sensible netizen and not overreacting? Bruh.

This is why licensed translations are so fked many times where one company hold the licenses hostage, providing shitty services, and prohibiting anyone else to attempt translation by law, thus forcing you to accept that shitty service or stfu.

Do you guys want it to be like that? Isn't more people working on these stuff to be celebrated? I don't get this hypocrisy at all.

Okay I'm the tranlator dude here and I'm commenting cuz I'm genuinely confused, what's up with the hate? First time translating so idk about translating manners but what do you mean by sniping? Google says its taking another translators work, but I did this by hand with MS paint, litterally even tried to redraw some lines cuz japanese is vertical and english is not. Pretty sure its allowed to have multiple groups tranlating a single manga, ive seen it before so idk why so hostile? Its not like im stopping him from uploading or anything and I'm not doing anything to hinder anyone else so im a bit confuse, help me understand
Look, I’m going to say on one hand I appreciate any translation and frankly some of the other commenters are being really mean spirited. However, you should always contact the last translator and/or group to see if they are still working on a series. If they are there are scores of series with no translations or ones that haven’t been updated in years, which would be a much better use of your time and which most people would be happy to have any translation at all. So, thank you for the effort and time but you should take this as a learning experience. Hopefully, this doesn’t put you off completely and you find something else to translate that doesn’t already have people working on it.

Edit: after reading thread, apparently OP didn't even know common etiquette. Ok, it happens. I remove my first comment then. Glhf translator-san

back in my day, snipers would at least TRY to match the sniped quality lmao

like, if you're going to take over (and I dont even know if PersonalistX is ok with that or not, mind you), at least do a good job, you know?
I know it has "comic" in its name but please PLEASE reconsider using Comic Sans as a font. Ever.
Typesetting is the hardest part of translating manga/comics/manwha but it is the Thing that makes a translation actually enjoyable for the reader, do take note of that.

Also, get a little familiar with the work: Haruka (the dark elf) is telling TO Collin, the girl, for HER, Collin, to take care. If you want to use LLMs for translating, well, at least revise their output properly. But I'll be honest, your work is not bad for what it is.

At least you asking, and others have given long answer so I will add a short version.

This series is still taken under personalistx, whom do a way better job than you. And ask yourself if someone copy your work and did a sloppy job on it, naturally you will be pissed and chances not gonna continue.
This is what we don't want to have, losing a capable translator because of an 'amateur'
There are plenty of other titles that is not getting translation over to years, or some new titles not getting translation yet, you can pick them instead. If you want people to notice fast, you can't, it took time for people to notice and this is normal.
