Yes, this should have been somehow included in the main manga... maybe less time dealing with Suo's extended family and more time developing one of the main characters! The core of this was alluded in the main story but to see it fleshed out makes it much better.

Yes, Seo being Seo in his story. I have the feeling most things will be resolved comparatively quickly since relationship drama is not the focus of the story but a lot of readers expect relationship drama from a Seo work so of course he is going to add some.
