And there it is. The regret.
But who can truly blame him? He's a child, they take everything at face value and hearsay.

Plus, her original personality was rather... offputting.

This is really funny as the reader. Richard believes that Britney was acting out for valid reasons, and is trying to improve herself now. Except we know that the Britney he saw was actually just an idiot. But that impression is because of the new Britney trying to deviate from the original Britney's lifestyle. It's a nice bit of pathetic fallacy that you can only really get from an isekai story.

@Aretheus Welll, it can be a breath mind and a candy mint. The original may well have been acting out for valid reasons . . . and been an idiot. It's not like the reasons didn't exist for the old personality. In this case, the current MC's advantage may be less that she does have the memories from her old life, and more that she doesn't have the memories from the current life, which she might not have dealt with well either.

@wolvenworks

I think i already said this nefore, but in the LN, it's around chapter
50
if i remember right.
The manga is obviously faster paced, so probably around chapter
15/20

She first need to deal with her trauma and find a solution ,it take time.

Anyways , thanks translator for the 1st tome.

@Porg You know, you don't need to assume that any aristocratic era setting has to be identical to our world. Perhaps something related to a lack of resources or researchers prevented its invention. We dont really know how the progress of science went in this other world but it doesn't need to parallel ours.

It is a plot device in this series though. I'm mostly complaining because I hate this argument most of the time. Imagine if you couldn't write an isekai without the other world being precisely like ours. What a terrible leash on the author.

The guy Richard does a complete 180 when she gets thinner. The translators of the novel actually ship Britney more with the Prince

@Porg - I do like one aspect of it. It fits well to "the mother of invention is necessity". She smells like shit, so she invents soap.

I also like how it fits narratively too. Soap is relatively easy to make and something a lot of people know. Meanwhile there was a time in recent history where soap isn't as common (even if it is not completely foreign) despite the need and thus market demand is always there. Unlike some isekai where they somehow create a printing press or something with way too little effort shown, soap is something a layman can re-invent with relative ease while still being impressive.

Also, did you know in the 19th century, soap long invented, doctors refused to wash their hands before surgery. When a doctor tried suggest the idea to other doctors, they got all offended as an insult to their high-class gentlemen backgrounds where they are always "clean and pure" then dug their heels even deeper. It took germ theory and essentially the old generation of doctors to age out before it was truly accepted that they should wash their hands.

@RhoninFire a lot of people know how to make soap? I know its not all that hard, a quick YouTube search for the information makes it pretty easy to figure out, but its not something a lot of people know on hand.

So glad someone else dislikes that line of thinking, Aretheus. 😊

@PsychoJing - I mean it's something common enough that if someone got randomly isekai'ed, it's plausible enough the person either knows how or knows enough to figure it out without large scenes of trial-and-error (something manga isekai stories also tend to skip a lot, major exception to stories like Honzuki no Gekokujou). At the same time, soap's value is apparent enough that it can be a boon to an MC despite being so easy to make.

Agreed with @Porg, I'm not cool with just excusing this kind of thing with "Oh well it's an isekai, their world doesn't need to be the same as ours." Sure if it was something that was in some way complex or hard to figure out I could buy that, maybe something that may have existed at the time but other cultures hadn't figured out.

This isn't like that though. I see this all the time in isekais and it annoys the shit out of me. This is something people figured out thousands of years ago precisely because it's relatively easy. They're just making everyone else dumb so the MC can look smart in comparison, and that's an isekai trope that really rubs me the wrong way; it suggests a lack of creativity in the author and an expectation that the readers won't care/know the difference. It's lazy.

@Aretheus soap is a pre-science invention, and the resources for soap are easy to get which is why she was able to get them immediately.

I have my doubts on people actually knowing off the top of their head how to make soap. I hate to be ageist, but I think people saying this are younger readers. You'd be surprised how much information you push out of your head when you go into the working world. I can program and build computers, but I sure as hell don't have a clue how to make soap. lol It simply has nothing to do with my job nor my interests.

Only thing that annoys me is that they seem to have a fridge (hopefully I'm wrong and it's some kind of alternative) and if so that's a huge oversight.

This is not the only LN-based manga that has made this mistake though. Like The Bookworm ( Honzuki no Gekokujou) Movable Type was around in the 1400s, yet they have glass windows in that manga (1700s). You're telling me nobles and commoners have a 300 year gap in technology when they are literally down the street from each other?

You've just got to let it go. Some authors are simply and honestly just...mistaken.

I actually hope she doesn't slim down. chubster protagonists are super rare in manga, so this is kinda cool
