If you're frustrated with tropes like the indirect kiss and generally awkward relationships in manga you should probably keep in mind recent surveys have found ~30% of men in their 20's and 30's in Japan have never even dated a woman and ~ 42% of married couples reported not having had sex for over a month. Cultures be different, yo. An indirect kiss is probably farther than a third of the target age demographic in Japan (and probably a much larger portion of the consumer base, the people who actually buy these manga) have ever gone.

Admittedly Paisen seems to have grown at least a portion of a spine in the recent chapters, so it'd probably be a bit more of a challenge to throw him off guard but COME ON!
