To be fair, they probably had to deal with a lot of people trying to scam them...

Though I find it weird that he repeatedly tried without a recommendation once he was told the first time....

Like, why does he suddenly not have enough intelligence to actually figure out that he doesn't have any way to properly identify himself??? Why did he not try to wait for the mayor that he knows??? He faced a problem and didn't even try to wait for a person he knew to try and help him.....
He’s the golden goose that can stop supplying matches and anything else to whomever else he wants too. The only people lacking in intelligence are the guilds shitting on anyone and everyone like it won’t ever bite them in the ass. Imagine if Aina shit on him, her mother would probably be dead by now.

Realistically, matches shouldn't be that hard to create, especially in a world with functional alchemy, and he's been selling them for a while. It wouldn't surprise me if the larger guilds were already starting to produce their own matches, rather than relying on his imports. It's also worth noting that there are other, low tech, ways to reliably start fires, though the author doesn't seem to be aware of them.

I'm not sure why everyone is ragging on the MC. HE just came from a town without a need for recommendation letters, the mayor he's traveling with said nothing to him about it, and even if he went to the mayor of a small town for help, sure from a much smaller town and he still wouldn't hang the required 3 recommendation letters.

Honestly the system is much more stupid than the MC. It completely discourages innovation. If someone invents or discovers a new product that could revolutionize how things in the world worked how would they get the product out? These merchant guilds aren't giving the time of day. Nobles are even less likely to hear from some random Joe (in this world).

It's a system in place that's just to flaunt power and to stifle others at the sacrifice of innovation.

I sure am glad that one merchant guild reiterated their name multiple times to establish that they were definitely going to show up again.

This chapter feels dumb. Characters being needlessly rude, and pretty much nothing else happening other than repetition. Setting up for comeuppance, I suppose, but it doesn't feel right.

Cat girl's kinda cute, though.

Back in the day, guilds were monopolies. If you produced a ware or service a guild specialised in, and were not a member, they'd crack down on you through various means. You could innovate, but you'd have to either have the support of a guild, or enough power on your own to be able to ignore them.

So that part is one of the more reasonable things in the chapter. And it makes sense to not trust a nobody if you can't recognise him. As they mentioned, there are apparently a lot of people up to no good or plainly incompetent to justify that system.

The part of it that doesn't make sense is that there doesn't seem to be any kind of alternative at all. No apprenticeship, no trial, no nothing.

Just chiming in to say thanks as well for picking this up. This is a fun little series and one of the few that actually makes pretty good use of the protagonist being able to go back and forth between the fantasy world and his own real world.

As for the chapter, dang talk about rude, they did warn him that other merchants were buying his supply to sell at higher prices elsewhere. I can't wait for him to crush these stuck-up merchants over the next few chapters by showing off like... one product that is super mediocre for us but super fancy for them. I guess

Not true; there are MILLIONS of people in the world. Why the hell would they believe that some rando that doesn't even look well off is that super genius businessman???

They already stated that there were tons of frauds trying to get in....

And before he went to them, he was LITERALLY TOLD he needed a recommendation and literally has no evidence of who he is....

Isn't it normal that they hate scammers???

MC is in a new place, gets told he needs a referral and rather than trying to talk to the lady that knows stuff, he goes off on his own and expected results for no reason.

That's just stupid.

You are saying that they are stupid because of a 1/million chance they offend the wrong person... while being a jerk isn't the smartest thing, it's also normal if you are in a high position.... you shouldn't think a person is stupid for having normal human flaws.

I say the MC is stupid because he was TOLD he needed a recommendation and instead of talking to people that could explain things to him, tries to go forward anyways with absolute no way for them to know who he is....

Basically, he knows he doesn't have documentation and yet magically expects results... that's just asking for humiliation....

Thanks for picking this up!

Dang that water throw was unnecessarily rude as opposed to actual devious merchants

Maybe he'll revive that run down shop within like a month and humiliate the other shops who turned him down lol
Yeah, that is the point where you pull as many strings as you can to blacklist that specific guild from all your products (they will still obviously be able to source them, but it will be more expensive as they have to go through more middle-men. Unless you use a noble to enforce it).
Maybe also the other guilds to be petty, though that would cost mc too - and diminish the punishment for the one that threw wine as he will have peers.

Yeahh, that water throw really wasn't necessary, only would've worked if we see them in absolute shambles next chapter after being cut off of getting his products

I know ms mayor forgot in the end to tell mc about the letters he needed, but it still feels like a dick move to not tell him about it enroute to the city
