@Sep10trion Yeah the whole point of democracy was to mitigate the power of any single person due to quality control issues. Stuff like Socialism and communism etc didn't fail because its a bad idea, it failed because people are unreliable and thus abused the idea for personal gain.
In reality democratic systems being used today are rather shit, especially from an efficiency standpoint. The only reason its the best system to date is because of its reliability. The wrong king can throw the country into chaos and all that power will result in wars to claim the position as long as humans crave it. Democratic systems spread that burden across dozens of varied levels of politician and bureaucrat. This means no single person or family can ruin everything on their own. The wars won't happen as often because the power available isn't usually worth it. Of course its not foolproof and various countries such as my own have ended up with a bunch of corrupt assholes in power because once again the system was built by such people to favor themselves. Still, a bad king is far worse than a bad prime minister.
Long story short if the people in the country were without such blatant flaws democracy would likely be less desirable since whoever was king would do the job and whoever wasn't wouldn't want the job.
