...But there is no shadow in the cage floor!
Shadows are not a thing, but an absence of light. Anywhere the light can not reach will have a shadow. For instance his clothes are casting a shadow on his body. Theoretically, he should really never not be able to use this shadow hiding ability.

I get the idea here. Make his death as pathetic as possible. It's Hitler in the bunker or Stalin on the couch. Did it work for the narrative? Ehhhhhh....

So Black is just a massive hypocrite, ranting about how it's not fair the strong always trample the weak when he himself is incredibly powerful. He had every advantage and still managed to lose because of his own poor decisions

Only way this could be redeemed is if the demon of despair was the adventurer and had hidden/moved his crystal. Then he lied about it to the Black Demon Lord to cause him to despair.
It's been made very clear from basically chapter 1 that the demon lord CANNOT move the crystal whence it has been placed down

well, that was anti-cllimatic ¬_¬
better than the novel. In it we didn't get the part following black as he fled. So we just got the out of nowhere notice he had died, so we didn't know about his plan to possess despair or that it failed. And we knew less about his possession in general, leaving us very uncertain if he was really dead or not.

As a novel reader, the manga actually gave more information than the novel. The while black fleeing and telling about the plan to posses despair, that wasn't in the novel, we just got sudden he is dead notice, with less understanding of his possession ability. Many of us assumed he would show up again, but it was just left a loose end hanging there all the way to the end.
This is most likely a change to tell us the theory most novel readers came up with was thought of but failed. So he really is dead.

idk man, I think the pathetic death fits his character well.

From the beginning we know that the Black Demon Lord prefers to do things in an underhanded way, so him trying to weasel out of the lynching through a War declaration is in character. MC even denied the War but rules are rules, as much as he doesn't want to do it, but when some higher being is in control he can't exactly refuse to participate.

In the end the way the Black Demon Lord died is pathetic. Lost everything due to his underhanded methods and with no lifelines left. There's a good chance someone killed him, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it is a pathetic death, a perfect representation of what he is.

Would it have been more satisfying to lynch him? Maybe. But dying off screen after losing everything fits him as well.

The details of shadow walk are more fleshed out in the novel. But there are a few restrictions. Size/surface area of the shadow. As well as are the shadows connected. He isn't entering the alt world like most of the other dive into (water, air, fire, or any other spatial walk ability) So he needs the shadow to be connected, he can jump from one to another that arn't connected, but there is a range limit on that.

So as I have said, this gave more to his death than the novel, in it he declares war, gets away, and then we just get the notice he is dead. We never heard of his plan to posses someone, or that it failed. The readers all thought that he must have possess another to get out of the fight, but the story moved on and there was never another sign of him. This new addition seems to be to put the novel readers theory to rest. The other theory is that he committed suicide as a petty last revenge, as he knew he was doomed anyway, this way he could forever be a boogeyman the MC would have to be wary of, as the MC knows about the possession ability.

Probably committed suicide, the way I see it.
That is the theory the novel readers settled on, this way know one knows how he died, so the MC who know about the possession agility has to worry is he really gone. And he was doomed to die already anyways. So it was a last petty, underhanded and spiteful way of attacking so very much his style.

Could still work if the one that got destroyed was a fake and the real one wasn't there in the first place.

Why? There were two good ways to end this and they came up with bullshit to avoid the first one then decided "nah we won't do the second either" what the hell.
well it allows mc to save his dungeon points for something more important
