Well that was a shitty mom. How would you know your daughter if you don’t spend time with her? You instead decide to adopt a commoner to replace your daughter.
POS mother. Never bothered to bond with her child cuz "She doesnt seem like a daughter". WOOOOOW, like, she went ahead and adopted a new child to spoil.
Author might've pulled a 300iq move by gathering all the attention on shitty mother instead of the dubious sequence of action that got our MC recruited into the guild.

Honestly, the whole "is it reallly my child" line of thinking would make sense if it was one of those stories where MC gets reincarnated into the middle of their childhood and suddenly changes. Which isn't the case here. The mother knew MC for as long as she was alive (in this life) so it feels kind of baffling. As far as she should be aware, outside of the "almost killing the pitbull that tried to eat her that one time" part, MC seems to just be a normal introverted child.
The guild recruitment is a hugely rushed plot point. Either we are not notified of some crucial information about MC, or they really just recruited a 12 year old noble's daughter based entirely on the rumor of her killing that one dog when she was 6.
I think the author might have tried to create a "Mother that is afraid of her daughters really abnormal behaviour" situation, but then didn't make the Mc's behaviour work for that.
I can somewhat see what they were going for, though they failed at the execution.
Guess they didn't know how to make a creepy child work as a MC

He literally just saw her show off her skill (the knife throw at the shop owner, which she chose + dodging his knife)
His type of character tend to have high degree of competency from mix of information related job and 'gut feeling' developed from experience.
It's done so quickly probably because none of the characters had any issue with it so there's no real need to spend extra time with unnecessary drama.
-Guy wanted to hire her
-She doesn't mind being able to ensure her safety via murdering threats
-The disguise girl is just following order (she's probably another child assassin herself anyway)

I've seen some introvert kids that would come off as way weirder than MC. I'm just gonna assume the mother is too horrible to try to do anything with her daughter.
I've interacted with mothers of actually mentally ill kids and they sure as hell never questioned if it was their child.
He sensed blood from her, threw a knife right at her skull, which she dodged easily. If that's not proof of her ability, I'm not sure what is.
I agree that it came a bit out of nowhere though. It would have been better if the scouting happened at a more secluded spot and not in a weapon shop and right in front of the shopkeeper no less.

The mother seems like she got an overly sheltered upbringing.
Serena been complaining about it since after she stabbed the dog.
Their house rarely took part in social events, so she doesn’t have many fellow wives to share the problem. Serena is also her first child.
That probably adds up to the shock that (even with servants to help with the hard work), raising a child is not like the fun stories she heard in tales. There are no cute daughter wanting to be spoiled and say she loves mama all the time. Looking at her, Serena probably never even complain and threw a fit.
And Serena herself said, she would take Rosemary's adoption positively as a distraction for her family.
The mother and servants busy playing with Rosemary means they forgot about Serena, giving her more private time.
Wondering how it would go with the father planning to be more present though.
A lot of the problem in the WN came because he's always busy on business trip. That means the job of educating the children fell on his wife who is too forgiving. The servants openly badmouth Serena, things that could have got them dead in typical noble household.
In the WN, he is smart enough to get troubled on how his wife, again, made careless decision. She agreed on Rosemary's engagement to the 2nd prince, who is rumoured to have problematic character, and overly ambitious mother. It practically dragged their family into future succession dispute with the 1st prince when he'd rather stay neutral. But with the king agreeing, there's nothing he can do about it other than hope for the best.
The 1st prince later approached Serena with a deal (she even ask him contract letter, black on white). She will hang around with the 1st prince, so people will assume the Violets plays both sides. This made the nobles wait and see who is more beneficial to their interest and delay picking sides. In return, the 1st prince promise to guarantee a peaceful life to Serena even in case her family got ruined for being on the wrong side.

Well yeah, the author botched it, as I said.
Guess it's a problem of wanting to have their cake and eat it too, with the author wanting their mc both be regarded as the creepy child but actually be a faultless saintess, with everyone except her assigned boytoys being wrong about her.
