Here's the thing. If everyone just snipe each other left and right, you'll end up with a small amount of popular titles with like 10+ groups working on it, while the less popular ones are completely abandoned, because guess what, no one read them, so no groups are encouraged to translate. In fact, it's already happening now with 10+ groups translating a Pixiv/Twitter series (with single-page chapter), while no one cares about a good ol' manga that's been dropped for years. Also as a seperate post here, I don't think sniping is inherently bad although if 1 group is doing it make sure it's at least at their quality and not an MTL poorly done.
I know some people think it stops groups working on a series cause someone else takes the candle but thats cause of the current mindset. It's better to have multiple groups doing series cause too often series just stop getting translated and no-one picks it up. I can't tell you how many series just in MD I have in my reading set that haven't been added to for over 6 months at this point.
It's pretty rare to find a series being translated that the group hates and usually when they start to hate it is when it gets dropped. I tend to find those Pix/Twit series with a million uploads are done by people as practice cause you only have to do 1 page for everything (TL, Redraw, ect). Here's the thing. You missed the point. The reason some series have so many groups TLing is because they either dislike others' take, or have different taste in cleaning/redrawing/typesetting. In the past, this would usually be resolved with a collab between groups so speed and quality will be maintained, but now everyone's like "nah I hate group A's release, Imma do my own".It's pretty rare to find a series being translated that the group hates and usually when they start to hate it is when it gets dropped. With current sniping stance we still get everyone dropping good ol' manga anyway cause they just get left in the dust and then forgotten. We have groups now like JUM that do obscure series so yeah I'm just not seeing how it'd lead to nothing but the most mainstream of mainstream series only getting done. I agree the other group that did this chapter though did a piss poor job.
