Had a through reread. I do love how Shiika and Kazuma is written as an unreliable narrator, Kazuma being addled with guilt, and Shiika being too young to understand. The part I love most the innate fear in both of them to figure out the truth, and how overcoming the fear liberates them from their own shackles. It might be my own bias as a person but I think anyone who have gone through suicide ideation in their life can feel a profound connection with this manga, I sure did, at the very least. And the artstyle truly carries this series, it feels like hand-drawn scribbles and doodles one would make while trying to figure themself out. Not trying to "wow" the readers, but it felt like as if the author is drawing and writing for themself. Exactly the type of manga I prefer.
I feel there's something lost in translation in regard to the Nishimis, but that's for until someone else step up to do a better translation.
There is a tendency in japanese pop lit where the protagonist runs away from their home and then comes back once they have something, and it might have affected this manga too.
All in all, this series is a 10/10 for me. Not an easy recommend, but I enjoyed each chapter thoroughly.
