"An idyllic dream that one has already abandoned"
Himmel already knew he would never be with Frieren :qq:
From the very first chapter on this has been heavily implied. Himmel was a true GIGACHAD, who knew his wish couldn't come true, thus he settled for the present - since the future was unattainable, and would have been ultimately cruel to Frieren.

He chose living his life with no regrets and enjoy the adventure he had with his friends, or rather the most important people in his life.

Stuck in an illusion that gives you everything you want? The same premise as the Mugen Train arc in demon slayer, an episode of justice league, and at least three episodes of Star Trek I can think of. Here's hoping that Sousou no Frieren has a new twist on it. I'll predict that Himmel's illusion is too perfect and he breaks it (the same ending in all the stories previously mentioned) only to come to present and find out that Frieren already used some broken future magic and killed Grausam. The illusion only lasted a second.

Like others have pointed out the real danger is the great demon Tot and her 100 year planet ending curse. fwiw "Töt" is German for "Dead."

I vastly prefer a credits page and whatever complaints the TL or RD might have compared to worrying about whether the last images are AI or not.

THANK YOU HERO OF THE SOUTH FOR BLESSING US WITH GRAUSAM'S SURVIVAL.
THANK YOU FOR NOT KILLING HIM.

I bet he sees through the illusion because how rediculous it is to him.
MVP of this arc might be Heiter instead of Himmel or Frieren. It's not that simple, breaking through illusion and freed from illusion magic. This is a Sage of Destruction, not an Einsam

I guess this were the Grausam is defeated in the current timeline.

Pretty sure the author is setting up the next demon to deal with.

Everyone’s focusing on the illusion, but what about that extra demon who wandered off? She’ll be a problem in the future I bet.
A tiny bit of meat for the theorist to go mad about. Don't worry about it.

not really future frieren is from 80 years into the future so they have a 20years gap still
Last time Frieren gave us a recap, it had been 31 years since Himmel died, their adventure took ten years, this is somewhere in the middle, and the 30 or so years are just the time after they got back plus fifty, it's going to take Frieren, Fern, Stark, and their debauched priest years to get to their destination. If they keep getting sidetracked, or maybe even if they don't, they may get there just as Tod starts their curse going.
