Yep, this is it. No bullshit, they know that she's useless and without any tributes she is just a walking trouble magnet. Should they accept her it would mean a friggin' war between countries. So they tell her, in quite a kind way too, to fuck off and die like a warrior/knight. I bet that they would cheer on Palidoro if Caroline turns back to fight him. I wonder if they would all collectively cream themselves if he just cleaves the girl in half and then just gentlemanly bows to them, wishing them a nice evening, lmao

From the sounds of it, they do have a preference for boys since they criticized her for not bringing any boys as gifts for them. However, it seems that while they might be attractive to Faust, they also have respect for his combat capabilities and see him as a warrior as well as a man, one that was capable of defeating their commander in fair combat.

So, Faust probably would've been viewed better if he was born in that country, but unless he had noble roots and/or ties that enabled him to become a warrior in the first place (similar to his own kingdom), he'd likely just ended up as a play toy for the women in that country rather than having the chance to be a warrior. That's my guess at least.
In Anhalt it is basically a 'known' thing about Willendorf preferences for more 'muscular' men. You can even jump back and see the palace pretty boys insult Lord Polidoro over being picked up from there. So while they'd still accept boys, because males are just rarer in general and they do need to keep population up, they still would prefer muscles. The WN is a bit more explicit about the preferences as well, so that is part of the information loss so far from the translation to manga. Not a big deal since we will probably get it in more detail in a number of chapters.

But yeah, Faust is still an outlier pretty much everywhere. Not that men can't be muscular, but how strong he is. His circumstances are a bit unique after all.

In our world, Faust would have been like that enemy commander, but surrounded by males. =/

They want her to die? What is with all the theatrics specially showing that they already know him? Just kill her yourself and be done with it then.
It's a genuinely bad political move to kill a person of interest who is seeking asylum, especially if they are of decent renown for kind of holding your culture's values. While this is probably not much of a better one, it leaves their hands ostensibly free of blood if she loses and they can get rid of a threat if she wins.

And if she loses but survives, then you got a huge military morale boost and political tool

so... if he went to willendorf would he be viewed better than he is in his home country? Do they prefer muscular men over sissy boys?
They value strength, but doesn't mean they are attracted to muscle men. Apparently spoiled.

You can value someone's attributes but think they're fugly enough to claw out your own eyes.

She's not seeking asylum she's defecting to an enemy nation. From Willendorfs perspective Caroline is a traitor who's trying to use insider info to bribe her way in.

And that alone is not enough o prove sincerity. If Caroline is willing to betray her oath to her queen, what's to stop her from betraying Willendorf in the future.

She's not a refugee seeking to escape war, she's a military commander who led a group of "rape and pillage" bandits and soldiers, hoping to join another nation that's Gung ho about "rape and pillage".

If she had sought asylum with her army and no sign that the royals are onto her, perhaps they would have accepted asylum and simply talked it down. But as it is, she is fleeing after losing a battle against the royal army of the neighboring country, with a war hero hot on her trail, with nothing but 'information'. Here, the benefits are clearly exceeded by the disadvantages of starting a war, considering the last war was lost by their side (IE, they were the ones forced to retreat). More importantly, Faust knew full well how they are like - they are basically Amazons that only accept the strong in their ranks, and her loss of a battle in which she had superior numbers was never going to go well.

I remember reading somewhere, that the commander mc offed, was of an "exotic beauty" and wasn't to his taste....
I don't recall reading this in the WN, but it's been a while since I read the beginning chapters. I know Reckenber was a bit older than him so maybe that's it? She was 35 to 45, if I'm doing the math right.

Huh? Those people are border guard for the neighboring kingdom, not part of the defectors.
Sorry not theirs, I meant Caroline’s. I get they’re making fun of her, but it’s still wild to see how she’s trying to act all confident and upbeat given the dire circumstances. Everyone acting rather jovial just feels like such tonal whiplash.
