It's not that Japanese people are not critical, it's that official platforms are much more heavily moderated and being openly critical usually makes you stick out in a negative way.
Remember there's a way higher likelihood that the author and other staff will read your comments on those apps, so openly insulting them is not a good look, even if you didn't like the story. Also your comment might get deleted if it's deemed inappropriate.
You can even see in series that get very controversial sometimes there are folks in the comments asking not to get too violent with the author and keep the peace. It's a very cultural thing.
But that's also why, when you do see people actually being openly critical, you know the story is turning to shit.
If I had a kid that will turn out like that, I'm gonna slap him so hard, it'll be borderline abuseThis is hilarious and absurd
It'd have been more sensible if his parents were powerful people, perhaps even abusive towards him, but it's gone in the dumbest and honestly funniest direction possible
when did that happen? I don't remember reading that.Maria was bullied by Bully’s Mom in school PLUS being from a rich family
We've Been Tricked, We've Been Backstabbed and We've Been Quite Possibly, BamboozledI came to this manga to take refuge from Juujika, not to re-live it god damn it....
yep yep, pretty much creating a circle of toxic positivity, pretty much explain why we got so many trash isekais, there's nobody directly saying that their shit is wack. It's not that Japanese people are not critical, it's that official platforms are much more heavily moderated and being openly critical usually makes you stick out in a negative way.

pretty much 2chan going fully unhinged for this. It's also why in areas of true anonymity where you aren't being censured by the powers that be you see Japanese users (really most Asian cultures) being particularly vitriolic and mean spirited to the point that it makes even some of the worst trolls in the anglosphere wince and recoil. Look what repression does to a mother fucker.
For better or worse, the Western side of the world isn't afraid to air their dirty laundry and speak their mind which on the surface level makes it seem like we're just angrier in general but the alternative is the toxic positivity you find on the Eastern side with a roiling maelstrom bubbling beneath the surface just waiting to erupt.
