Ugh, so did not particularly enjoy this chapter, while I have mostly enjoyed things leading up to this point. The biggest problem that I really take why would they make such a show about this? Like I get why the author would have all of this happen in front of the nobles and everyone, it gives various characters the opportunity to speak up and engage in this moment that's pretty important, it makes it reasonable for Greed to find her when he's in the area, and it lets all the mob characters who theoretically help run the country but aren't important to the characters to get to see Greed and be involved with this (also tension and stakes as the MC is alone as a crowd of people call for her death), but let's take a step back.
Why would the King do this in front of everyone? So we can reasonably assume that he took the word of his head magician very seriously given that he's willing to basically assume that the MC is guilty of being a witch until proven innocent, so maybe he wanted to verify that statement, but by doing it this publicly not only is he exposing himself to danger if this person who he believes to be a witch uses some magic to hit him from a distance (something that could be avoided if he made a few excuses to delay having a meeting with her while he had his people verify if this was true) but he also has the fucking Crown Prince watch this stuff when he had no idea things were going to go this way which means that he's tantamount to lying to the one guy who would have the most to gain if the king were to suddenly die in his sleep. On top of that by basically making a show of what he believes to be an assassination attempt, it'll shake the public trust as it means that an actual witch could show up and get this far, you want to handle assassination attempts discreetly to keep the public and your supporters content thinking that there is no threat to the status quo they like. This isn't even getting into how a government would simply not function with this many blood-thirsty killers at the top, sure I get that power attracts people who would do anything for it but we are biologically inclined to like people, and seeing people die can really fuck with you. We're not talking about trained soldiers who have seen war and violence but nobles who probably deal with their less then moral actions by having several degrees of separation and viewing themselves as above brutality and such.
But blah, I really enjoyed several of the earlier chapters and I am interested in several of these characters, I am also interested in seeing how the sister is going to be punished for her selfishness since they didn't go for an incredibly cheap opportunity to pay her back here, but I certainly hope the writing seen here was weaker due to the author trying to just 'get to the point' and we'll be getting back to stuff that holds together better, though usually that's not exactly how things go with writing...
