It sounds like he's acknowledged that MC's eyes are fast enough to warrant something other than healing magic.Yes he is kind of a magic swordman type, hell its stated that he can cut bullets with his blade. But healing skills on this setting seems to be a diferent kind of setup so either you have an atack oriented setup with some defense skills or a fully support setup.
Spells like barrier seems the kind of spell that anyone that can use magic is able to learn but its performance varies depending on the skill and power of the user, its not a fixed value
The answer for that is simple - if it wasn’t a genderbending isekai, if it was just a manga about a young girl experiencing the horrors of war, do you think it would get as much attention as it has here? This is really good. Still don't know why this is an isekai.
More like he noticed that she has some skill at keeping herself alive so hes trying that she lives enough to be useful to him instead of her croaking as soon as she is in danger, but his teaching methods are questionable at bestIt sounds like he's acknowledged that MC's eyes are fast enough to warrant something other than healing magic.
More likely he will experienced "getting fragged". Basically when the US was in Vietnam if a commander was incompetent or they thought he would get everyone killed, his own soldiers would use a frag grenade to kill him so that way no one could take the blame. This ended up being called "getting fragged"Maybe but i'm pretty sure if he continues like that and all those suicidal charges he does he'll be either left to rot in one of those charges or he'll die in "a tragic ambush by the enemy while taking a piss".
My guess is he reincarnated into the game and the commander is basically acting as he used to when he played the game. 0 respect for units, only thinks about the most effective way to get something done, only wants to units to focus on him. So now he's experiencing what that's like from the pov of the units he used to think so little of.This manga continues to get more brutal and fucked up. I wonder where the author is going with this?

She probably did but she realised that unlike other isekai stories, she didn't get reincarnated with bs OP abilities. No, she's just an ordinary person who can use magic like every other magic user. Not a Saint, or a Hero, or some special Chosen One.which makes you think that.. why she didn't thought of that.. gamer huh.. author really dismissed that fast..
any gamer that suddenly put into world with magic will probe around on what they can and can't do..
it like checking your character status and inventory.. you know.. typical thing you do when gaming..
i don't hate this man at all, coz he a usual trope of "bad at showing his affection" (or something similar)..
And another LN specific note about the difference between Commander and Tanya, she actually has empathy for her fellow troops. She goes as far as willingly embracing Being X's power for a whole mission to destroy a docked battleship all because a few of her subordinates died. This flies in the face of every other volume before where she calls the power an evil, corrupting force that brainwashes her into loving God. It had been at least 6 volumes or so since the last time she even used the power, but her desire for retribution for her comrades outweighs her hatred of God.WW 1/2 trench warfare with magic. So in that way, it's very like Tanya. However, the focus is on the gritty, treacherous, brutal life in the trenches.
Commander is a very interesting character -- whom I damn sure as hell would not want to serve under. It seems that in this world combatant front line mages are essentially "heroes" (high value combat units), and so are given very preferential treatment.
Commander abuses Touri for not using shield in the best way. She faults herself for not asking. But it's at least equally his fault for not training her. If he hadn't determined to use her as nothing but a personal healbot, then she would have been more effective.
Note contrast with Tanya (LN version)... Tanya is an outstanding commander/personnel manager. While she also is very tough on her troops, she's also very good about managing them and improving their performance.
