@Kaarme and partially @mahtan (A bit long but this is to clarify some things)

She's, at the moment, the acting lord, she's acting as a proxy for her father, she's using HIS power not her own. She's already been banished from noble society and hasn't been allowed back in yet. She has no official noble title, she's simply a Duke's daughter, and in noble society, she has no power outside of being a proxy. Any decisions she makes as acting lord of the fief reflects back to him as if he was the one who decided such actions since he is the one who officially holds the power as a Duke and as a lord of a fief.

The church having denounced her for her act of tearing down a church. Because she's the acting lord of the fief, her father is one being inquired, not her. Since he doesn't know everything of what she did as acting lord, unopposed the inquiry will find him negligent in his duties and make him step down from being Prime Minister while making him take responsibility for her actions. She's more or less just a daughter of a Duke that has no real power or the proper connections to defend herself.

What advantages she may have done for her fief are insignificant as it is only for her fief, the other fiefs are unaffected and will not follow her example, especially the 2nd prince faction ones. Against the accusation of committing a sacrilegious act of tearing down a church without permission, the corrupt priests from who knows where in the hierarchy, probably pretty high, will align with the 2nd prince faction's goals to stay in the "winning" faction's good graces. Which is more advantageous to them, a mere Duke's daughter with no power or the next ruler of the kingdom.

The tolls placed against the fief causes her to try and find other routes that are SLIGHTLY less expensive to deal with but she is still facing a loss. More overhead she has to deal with the fewer profits she can use for investing in other ventures or even the same ventures. And it takes more time which means more perishable products might not survive the longer journey. Remember there's no such thing as mobile refrigeration technology and they are using horses and carriages. In this world, the route she was using was the fastest and most expedient route she could use. If she's forced to take a longer and more dangerous route while also compensating it in other areas like extra hired guards. She has to spend more money to deal with it and fewer products that might still be sellable. And it's not easy to raise prices for her products if her reputation is also in question. And there's also the number of tolls she would have to go through if she DID do so, and whether or not they'll raise them again against her.

Imagine being so butthurt over your ex's happiness you get your church going friend to get his dad to excommunicate you. Then fuck over your ex's business despite everyone liking what she offers and it having nothing to do with you.

The church does have too much influential power but it is the main religion of the country. It doesn't have the political power to affect anyone but when their influence is used in a political circle, their words hold great weight and can stranglehold certain parties. And those who conspire with them can gain great strides in their goals. They're not a ruler, just a great influential force.

Just because the church is religious doesn't mean it can't be a ruler. To rule is have authority over an area and it's people. A ruling power can be political, military or religious. In this case, the main power is political with the King as headman, while the Church is an "unofficial" ruler with God as headman (as puppet) with the Pope as his spokesman (real headman). The current situation is an internal conflict inside the political power while the Church is associated with one side to pressure the other.
In these eras the churches had usually more influence than the kings because a king is mortal and will be changed at some point, while the church will always be "ruled" by God which is usually regarded as a flawless being.

@hayatekanzaki She should have plenty of money if nothing else. Her fief and she have been doing economically splendidly. Already back in ancient times money equalled power. Of course there's the possibility she invested every single cent for future prospects if the story says she has little available and thus no buffer. That would have been unfortunately stupid. In the meantime, like I said, she should raise tolls as well. That'll get her some money back and make the other fiefs suffer in turn. If her fief was exporting far more than importing, it won't help as much, but it will lead to another advantage: When the people of the other fiefs are deprived of her popular products, they will start to ask why and become unhappy. That's a situation the other lords will need to face either by relenting or by using force. The latter would also help Iris later.

@Hikkaryu Sure, church had plenty of influence, but it was hard to capitalise on it against secular rulers. The secular rulers were the ones with the armies. The church would rather cooperate with the rulers because it loves gold as much as any king. This is also the case here: the church obviously chose to cooperate with a faction. We will see in the future just how much they will pay for it.

This is not the case. The king is indisposed leaving the remaining Queen, mother of the 2nd Prince, in charge at the moment. The other Queen, the mother of the 1st Prince, is not alive(not sure if it was mentioned in manga yet). The Church is not "ruling" anything with the current Queen's track record of running things.

@hayatekanzaki

Iris father told her or rather hinted that the mother of the 2nd prince, the current queen killed the 1st prince mother

While monarchies have kings and queens as ruler, churches have authority different to that of monarchy in the sense that they're closer to people compared to rulers. Churches rule over people's heart (through fear) so they have power rivaling that of monarchy.

@Aretheus yeah i kinda understand with the trope now in the sense that things behind those one dimensional games can be so heinous never seen in the games.

@hayatekanzaki People's loyalties have a mysterious tendency to fluctuate when their coffers are running dry. I hope this story is not pulling everything out of nowhere but there's a reason why the second prince can convince anyone to go against their own immediate benefit. Like a huge reward later. Still, if Iris (or the first prince for that matter) had some intelligence gathering ability, they should be able to find out something about such promises.

Everything that's happening is using certain stuff that's already happened. Mainly the trigger for this whole thing is when Iris demolishes the old church so she can make a new church. Everything else after that is just strategic conspiracy planning at work to try and keep them from doing anything, all in order to get rid of the whole family.

I could go into detail but that be spoilers. You know spoilers = BAD. Also, you're not wrong about the loyalties part there, Kaarme. Part of this arc there is some desertion of employees of her company.

God damn, the artist really nailed it with the facial expressions in this chapter. They really hammered home how dire and intense this situation is.

Her expressions in this chapter has become like a Damsel in distress. This is inconsistent from the story so far. Will probably drop it if it continues in another chapter
