It looks like this is actually an otome setting and that knight would probably one of the romance targets, maybe they're just preprogramed to hate the "villainess"? Whatever the reason, the self righteousness everyone shows is frustratingly annoying with our point of view.
I think so. But I also feel that the only reason they are so self righteous is because of the the mc mother and how she blindly says and does whatever without thinking of the consequences. Because remember it's normal for nobles to punish those who done wrong by them but she doesn't punish anyone in fact she kinda let's them essentially do whatever they want
She has some attachments to her father who is on her side. He is just isn't home often enough to stop this shitfest happening and he got unlucky of marrying an incompetent wife.

The dad did told the mom that he will try to be home more. I don't think we see that happened yet.
In before he becomes some 'friend' for the MC and his IQ drops into the single digits as he becomes either the 'friend but not lover side character that always goes on about the MC' trope or the 'gallant knight who will always white knight MC' trope. Or just outright dies because apparently being terminally-brain damage and Olympic level mental gymnastics are necessary for the story to continue...Huh, that's odd. Someone who actually put one and one together to make two, and not values of anything other than two? For shame, doesn't this author know how to lean exclusively on stereotyped tropes and write a flavorless, predictable story?

The dowry is probably on the Duke's family in this case if this is really based on European cultures utilizing the same peerage system they use.
