Shuukura be like.

In the WN, they've graduated and are living together and do "stuff" from time to time, but they're not a couple as long as Miyagi doesn't acknowledge it.

Not sure the manga will ever get to that arc, its release rate is too slow.
it took the adachi and shimamura manga like 5(almost 6?) years to get to the confession, if the shuukura manga is popular enough it will get there eventually

I doubt it was cynically queerbaiting but the story would have been better off if it toned it down sooner, or had the grit to get literal considering everything set up to fail.
I doubt it was cynically queer baiting, but I think Kuzushiro knew what she was doing. Heck, even by the end, I know some of us we're making "Fellas, is it gay to ask your sister-in-law to put a ring on it?" jokes.

I get that it was ultimately a drama, and mostly veered from the main pair as a couple, but the little teases of romance from Shino's besties to her and Nozomi's co-worker (and Ritsuko) to her also kind of frustrated me.

Like she wasn't happy with one hook baited, she had to bait them all.

ETA: lmao, just wanted to be clear that Ani no Yome is one of my all-time faves and is a yearly-read for me. Even though she baited me, I happily bit the hook, and keep going back for more.

(Also, I get that re: Green Yuri. To me, it used to be a pretty standard HS romcom. Now, though, it's like if How Do We Relationship didn't have a direction.)

Eventually I may be able to form a more chill opinion on Ani no Yome, I think I'm not truly rational about it as I'm still testy about the incidental baiting. So I haven't reread it since it ended. It felt like literary style setup with Shino being gay knocking over a bunch of carefully placed dominoes, like 10+ dominoes. Ritsuko was psyched up for some kinda mess. Then dramatic yuri subtext basically evaporated save for the one ending scene with a ring at the beach (a bit incongruous at that point). At least it portrayed trauma well and didn't other queer people.

I mean, yeah, you're reminding me both that it had the mix of teases that are just comedy levity and teases that are given too much drama to feel like gags. I'd better let it go for now haha

Amayo no Tsuki is a cathartic, maybe even impatient mirror to that. Lots of subtext yet upfront the Shino-resemlance character is closeted, and the Nozomi-resemblance character's unconscious flirting has story consequences. Kuzushiro's taste in lead-couple designs struck hard, and Ani no Yome hadn't even officially wrapped up. Add the casual queerness to the casual disability existence I loved so much in Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice), and the result is really special. If this goes long enough to do more than gesture at societal issues it'd be doubly special.

I'll not mindread about the original intent or shift in style in Ani no Yome at the midway and final chapter... but I'm definitely getting the impression that Amayo no Tsuki is a bit of a different kind of passion project that covers ground for Kuzushiro's favored character builds. Like same actors recast in a different film.

Vagueposters will be put to jail until they make their feelings clear.

Kanon is really just exploding with romance for Saki once she realized what's up, so cute 😂 finally it's her turn to have the constant gay panic.

People evidently don't want slow burn slice-of-life romance... IDGI...
But what really gets me is that we were literally telling everybody that YES THEY ARE REALLY GAY and I even posted a couple of screenshots of the JP raws and it literally changed nothing until we actually TL'd that part of the manga............
:aquadrink:
And here I was thinking people were pissed because the manga was boring as fuck with zero character growth from the two mains and most of the romance were in the extra chapters.
